Do-Dah-Day is Back in Birmingham
Who doesn’t enjoy an animal-loving parade and festival? One of the oldest and most well-known festivals in Birmingham, Alabama is back for its 40th year. Thousand of animal-lovers and their fur-babies are preparing for Do Dah Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 19. The festival is dedicated to a day of fun but also aids in finding thousands of animals throughout Birmingham a home and the care they need. Attendees are guaranteed a paws-itively awesome time with the parade of pet-owners dressed in silly costumes, unbelievably delicious food and groove-worthy music. Every year Do Dah Day Parade has marching bands, briefcase drill teams, synchronized dancers and crazy clowns. Since 1992, the festival has raised more than $1.3 million for Jefferson County animal shelters. The Greater Birmingham Humane Society, Alabama’s first humane society, has been involved in this event for many years. Do Dah Day’s mission is extremely similar to that of GBHS, “To promote respect for life through education and prevention of cruelty to animals and people.” Get off on the right paw if you want to participate in this fun-filled parade. Registration begins on May 19 at 9:01 a.m. at the parade start location on Highland Ave and 33rd St. South. If you plan on flaunting your decorated vehicle or float, be on site by 9:45 a.m. For more festivities, Do Dah Eve begins on May 18 at iCantina Tortilla Grill from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the cause! After the parade, the fun continues as music and activities take place between the two parks on Highland Avenue. Many great bands are performing from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm.
