Decorating Tips for the Holidays
At Harris Doyle, we love spreading holiday joy into the comfort of our homes. While we know decorating your home for the holidays can sometimes be a cumbersome, stressful event, our design team has come up with a few simple and affordable solutions that will help you easily bring the festive spirit to your home. Here are a few decorating tips for the holidays that will surely have your house feeling cheerful and warm this holiday season. Keep it Simple First and foremost, keep your décor simple. Spend time decorating areas of your home that will make a difference for you and your family in spaces where your family gathers. Using your favorite nativity scene in your family room, along with fresh cut greenery and seasonal scented candles will bring the holiday season to life. Adding a few holiday elements to a guest room such as a nice, cozy flannel throw or festive holiday pillows will really warm up the room and make your guests feel at home. Go Natural Our designers love to use natural touches whenever possible when decorating for the holidays. It’s a simple and affordable way to add warmth to your home. Utilize fresh cut greenery from a neighborhood public space that has beautiful cypress trees or magnolias. Snip a single branch and sit it in a tall vase by itself, or snip several leaves to make a beautiful wreath for your front door or windows. If you’re blessed with a magnolia tree nearby, start a new holiday tradition of making your own magnolia wreath with your family. Follow these helpful instructions from Southern Living, we love this simple, but festive magnolia wreath! Decorate Your Mailbox Don’t forget about your mailbox this holiday season! Adding fresh cut greenery with a beautiful bow for a splash of color is a fun and festive way to add some holiday cheer to the outside of your home. You can use fresh clippings of holly, magnolia or Fraser firs from your yard or neighborhood. Lay it on the top of your mailbox, tie it together with twine or wire and top it off with a beautiful, fluffed bow for a festive touch! White Lights vs. Color Lights The biggest decision you’ll hopefully have to make around the holidays is what color lights to put on your Christmas tree. We often find that more often than not, couples tend to disagree about what color they should put on the tree. However, you can trust us when we say that there is no right or wrong answer! Picking the lights for your tree is purely personal preference. We personally love the vintage C9 color bulbs. Try stringing your tree first with small white lights and fill in the holes with the big color bulbs. You’ll love the color combination! If you love decorating for the holidays as much as we do, take a picture of your holiday décor and upload to social media with the hashtag #HarrisDoyleHolidays! We would love to see your beautiful holiday creations. From our family to yours, we wish you a warm and jolly holiday season.
