As we enter a new year, new home buyers are wondering, "What's next?" It’s no secret that design trends change from year to year, but we've seen more dramatic shifts in the last couple of years. As homeowners have spent more time in their home, they’ve discovered new ways to express themselves through wall colors, furniture, and patterns. With the shift to more time at home we continue to see major impacts not only on the interior design industry, but also on the new construction industry and their overall appearance and feel of new homes.
One of the biggest perks of buying new construction home is that your new home will have the most up-to-date features throughout. The Harris Doyle design team keeps up with current trends to ensure we offer the opportunity for your new home to have the most modern elements.
Introducing Panama City New Home Construction Interior Designer
Monique Burton, the newest member of the Harris Doyle interior design team, sat down with us to give a sneak peek into what will be popular in 2022. Monique joined the Harris Doyle team at the end of 2021 and has been working in the Harris Doyle Birmingham office for the past few months. At the end of February, she'll relocate to Harris Doyle’s Panama City, Florida office, where she’ll manage the design process for all new homes in Harris Doyle’s Costal Division, which includes Sweet Bay, Miller's Landing, and the newest beachfront community, Margaritaville Beach Cottages and Resort PCB. Harris Doyle is excited to welcome Monique, who is an incredibly talented designer and has a keen understanding of the most recent new home construction trends for 2022.
How to Incorporate the 2022 Colors of the Year
Each year, paint companies reveal their selections for the shade that best captures the current period and trends in culture, fashion, technology, and design. For 2022, Pantone's color of the year is Very Peri, while Sherwin Williams' color of the year is Evergreen Fog. Both are bold hues that you should anticipate seeing in new home construction throughout 2022. We asked Monique her thoughts on the 2022 Colors of the Year and here is what she had to say:
“For Pantone's Very Peri color, it's a great blend of red and blue with a nice smokey feel to it. I love how they subdued the purple without making it feel overwhelming. If a client really wanted a purple-themed room, I'd try to persuade them to use this color because it has a purple tone to it but in a mellow, classy way."
“For Sherwin Williams' Evergreen Fog color, I absolutely love the shade! Not only do I love green, but it does a great job of presenting itself as a neutral with a classy green hue to add some life into any space!”
When you think of the color of the year, you probably picture it on a wall in your home, which can be intimidating if you prefer standard neutrals. However, Monique has some great ideas for incorporating Very Peri and Evergreen Fog into your new home, whether you want just a splash of color with décor or bold pops on your walls or cabinets.
“I would add some pillows or throws in either color to add texture to the home, as well as a beautiful art piece that incorporates it, for a more reserved look. Flowers in the shade of Very Peri would also be lovely! Because Evergreen Fog is more of a neutral, it can be used to bring balance to the home in a variety of ways, including on the walls, a statement piece of furniture, or a nice cabinet color. You could always paint your cabinets and walls in Very Peri if you’re feeling more daring.”
2022 Furniture Trends and Tips
Aside from the growing popularity of bold colors, furniture has undergone many changes in recent years as well. As people spend more time at home, they have begun to forego fast furniture and started to favor higher-quality pieces that are less likely to go out of style and will last longer. Monique's response below describes the furniture items that are flying off the shelves at antique malls and upscale furniture stores, which we think you should also keep an eye out for.
“Furniture we can expect to see more of is playing on geometric twists with curves, shapes, lines, and angles but the pieces are still soft and welcoming. In all aspects of life, we are seeing mingling of old with new and finding a balance between the two. The same goes with furniture, so have fun with it and combine multiple styles and not limit to one. Traditional style and antique pieces with all their character are also making a huge comeback, so find something to reuse to mix in with your own personal style."
Incorporating Prints and Patterns into you 2022 Interior Design Plan
In the world of interior design, prints and patterns are essential. A pattern can reflect on your style and set the tone for your room in a variety of ways, from textiles to wall coverings to flooring. Here are a few of the most popular home décor prints that Monique has seen homeowners fall in love with recently.
“Homeowners are embracing florals, ethnic patterns, antique rugs, and block prints from India for a layered, traditional feel. I don’t think the graphical based patterns like smiley faces or graffiti are going anywhere either. I have already noticed 3 people this year with smiley face phone cases. I definitely think the new beach homes will adopt a lot of fun crazy patterns.”
Finally, Monique was asked to give some advice to new Harris Doyle homebuyers in 2022 when it came to designing their new home. This is what she said...
“Don’t be afraid to go out of the box! Yes, painting a whole dining room hunter green can sound unnerving, but if you love it, go for it! We only have one life, and we should live it to the fullest! What does it matter if others don't like it? Remember, this is your home; you can do whatever you want with it and that’s part of the fun! I also recommend investing in good furniture pieces and only adding things to your home that sparks joy and that you love. Lastly, remember to keep an open mind because sometimes obstacles can happen in the homebuyer’s journey but that won’t stop you from moving into a beautiful new home at the end.”
We hope you found this interview to be informative and inspiring. Harris Doyle Homes is looking forward to seeing each of these interior design trends come to life in our new homes during 2022!
