With its historic southern charm, Birmingham and Auburn offer plenty of inspiration for interior design. Erin Brigham, one of our interior designers on staff at Harris Doyle is constantly on the hunt for popular trends. Our interior design team is infused with creativity and strives to bring the newest designs and hottest trends to our homeowners. We love highlighting the hard-working individuals who provide these endless possibilities and giving insight into their background!
As an on-staff designer, Erin has the pleasure of working one-on-one with homeowners to help design the home of their dreams. On a daily basis, she hosts meetings and spends hours in the design studio, but she also has a lot of behind-the-scenes responsibilities. “I help with the design of new house plans and make sure that each homes template is correct so that the final product is beautiful, flows well and is functional for the homeowner,” Erin states. “I also work with my fellow designers on the plans for all our model homes. We team up to select the finishes and details, and also furnish and decorate the completed model homes to better showcase what we as a home builder are capable of creating for each future resident.”
As a Samford University graduate, Erin has obtained her skills from the best-of-the-best. “They have a phenomenal Department of Interior Architecture and I learned a lot from some incredibly skilled professionals: Department Chair, Jeannie Krumdieck, Ken Brazil, Charles Ford, and the one and only Mike Hubbs,” Erin states. “ I also had the pleasure of working for Mike Hubbs and his partner Jan Gilchrist for a year during my time at Samford which gave me a unique opportunity as his student to see the behind-the-scenes efforts put in to create a gorgeous home.”
After obtaining her degree at Samford, an interior design career did not come easy. Due to the market recession at the time, she offered freelance design work but decided to put her organizational and interpersonal communication skills to use and work as an office administrator at defense attorneys Polson & Polson in Homewood. After working with them for five years, an opportunity for an interior designer at Harris Doyle opened the door to her true passion. “My sister-in-law was actually building with Harris Doyle when we found out about their need for an additional designer on staff, and I JUMPED at the opportunity,” she stated.
At Harris Doyle, we focus a lot on family and company culture. In order to build a truly comfortable home for our buyers, we have to start at our own roots. All of our home plans offer something special for each individual family. “My favorite plan right now is the Hogan,” Erin stated. “It has a great layout with an open living area, a breakfast space and formal dining. There’s a guest suite on the ground floor to provide privacy to visitors, and the master suite is located upstairs.” She continues, “As a mom to a toddler, the proximity of the master bedroom to the kids’ rooms is appealing for me! I also love the vaulted ceiling on the great room, the large kitchen, and the walk-in pantry.”
Erin is one of our personal designer’s for homeowners. She is the one who will help guide you with the decisions on your new home. As a tip for future homeowners, she suggests, “Do some browsing before our first meeting and provide me feedback (and pictures!) on what your design taste is, what features you really want to include in your home, what your current furniture is that you’ll be using in the house, etc.” She also states, “Our Big Book of Awesome and Big Book of Answers both have some great information and advice in there on things to think about in anticipation of our meetings. I always encourage clients to bring me pictures of their current home and/or pictures of houses they like so we can use those to help direct us in our selections.”
When Erin is out of the office, you’ll find her playing with her toddler, taking her dogs on a walk, or if it’s football season, attending a UAB Blazers game where her husband coaches running backs. To learn more about our unique and amazing team members, visit http://harrisdoyle.com.
