Things are getting icy near your Birmingham new home this year. The McWane Science Center is taking visitors back to the Ice Age with an Unearthing Alabama’s Ice Age exhibit and showing Titans of the Ice Age on the big screen in the IMAX.
In the brand new Unearthing Alabama’s Ice Age exhibit, guests to the museum will have the unique opportunity to see fossils from mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, fishes, and botanical remains from both cave and stream localities in the state. This exhibit will highlight many of the Ice Age animals from the McWane Science Center Collection, as well as allow visitors to learn more about the common misconceptions surrounding the Ice Age in Alabama. The Unearthing Alabama’s Ice Age exhibit is located in the City Gallery on Level 2 of the museum and is included in the cost of admission.
Visitors wanting to learn more about the Ice Age can do so while watching the frozen era come to life on a 3D, five-story tall canvas in the IMAX. Titans of the Ice Age transports viewers back to a time when man first discovers art, language, clothing and fire, while sharing the frozen tundra with majestic woolly beasts. This awe-inspiring film allows visitors to learn more about the changing of the land and the extinct animals that roamed the land during the Ice Age. Tickets are available to purchase in advance by visiting the website, www.mcwane.org.
