Five Christmas 2020 Decorating Trends for Your New Home
Another Christmas season has arrived, and the decorating festivities are already in full swing! As southerners, we have the reputation of going big when it comes to the holidays. We begin listening to Christmas music well before Thanksgiving and plan our festive décor months in advance. Even after the holiday season has come to pass, we are often caught leaving our decorations up a little longer than everyone else. This year is no different from the rest. Homeowners have even started decorating earlier this year to bring some holiday cheer to their household.
Every holiday season has its own trends and fresh ideas. From flocked trees to sought-after color schemes, we have found it all for you – and it’s charming! Below are five decorating trends for 2020 that will have your new home feeling extra festive this holiday season.
1. A Rustic Farmhouse Christmas
The Farmhouse style has been a popular staple to home décor for some time now. It is desirable because it makes a living space feel more comfortable and inviting. A farmhouse Christmas has been one of the most popular styles googled over the past five years. It’s nothing new to the south though. We’re sure you remember visiting the grandparents’ home with the country décor, wallpaper, and chicken coop out back. Farmhouse style has since evolved, but it’s inspired by this old school farm life. Some key farmhouse pieces include neutral colors/textures, natural wood tones, burlap, and galvanized steel. The great thing about farmhouse décor it’s easier to match your existing décor. You can still look festive without using traditional Christmas colors. You don’t have go all out with the traditional red and green Christmas tones. Use white, black, tan, and navy if its more of your year-round aesthetic.

2. Navy Colored Décor
The color of the year is Classic Blue. This color not new to the new home décor industry either. We see it in many aspects of the home building and decorating process. Many of our model homes feature blue furniture, paint, and accessories. This color goes great with many neutrals and can act as a pop of color. By decorating with blue stockings, pillows, ornaments, and other décor you will feel like you are bringing the chill of winter into your home. It’ll make you want to snuggle up in your favorite holiday blanket around the fireplace.
3. Flocked Christmas Tree
Are you dreaming of a “White Christmas”? If so, the best way to bring the seasonal occurrence indoors is by flocking your Christmas tree. You can either purchase a pre-flocked tree or DIY the branches yourself. For step by step instructions on how to flock your tree, click here. Flocking spray or powder can be used to complete this DIY. A white Christmas is a rare occurrence in Alabama, so you’ll want to jump on the bandwagon with this trend!

4. Ceramic Christmas Trees
This is the year that many old trends have come back into style, including clothing, music, and especially décor. Ceramic Christmas trees are one of these trends and they are flying off the shelves at local retailers. You can find at just about any store that is selling Christmas décor. The most popular ceramic trees are the ones that were popular in the 60’s or 70’s that sit on a tabletop. If you already have one, then pull them out of storage and dust them off because they are trending like crazy. If you need to get your hands on one, we’ve linked one of the top-rated ceramic trees from Amazon below.
