Back to School Shopping Near Birmingham New HomesThe start of school is just around the corner and for parents that means back-to-school shopping. From three-ring binders to new shoes, the list of “must have” items is long and can get expensive. This weekend, residents of our Alabama new homes will have the opportunity to save a little with the annual “Back-to-School” Sales Tax Holiday.

Beginning Friday, August 2, 2013 at 12:01 a.m. and ending Sunday, August 4, 2013 at midnight, shoppers will have the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers and clothing free of state sales tax.

Clothing items available free of state tax ($100 or less per article of clothing) include:

  • Belts
  • Boots
  • Caps
  • Coats
  • Diapers
  • Dresses
  • Gloves
  • Gym Suits
  • Hats
  • Hosiery
  • Jackets
  • Jeans
  • Neckties
  • Pajamas
  • Pants
  • Raincoats
  • Robes
  • Sandals
  • Scarves
  • School Uniforms
  • Shirts
  • Shoes
  • Shorts
  • Socks
  • Sneaks
  • Underwear

 

Computers available free of tax include laptops, desktops or tower computer systems. Additionally, computer software is exempt from taxes, as well as school computer supplies including computer storage media, handheld electronic schedulers, personal digital assistants, computer printers and printer supplies. A single purchase of $750 or less is eligible for exemption of state taxes.
