On Tuesday morning, members of the Pike Road Town Council unanimously voted to appoint five new members to the Pike Road Education Leadership Committee (PRELC). The appointment of five new members, along with five previously appointed leaders, creates a strong leadership team that will help take the Pike Road school system from ground breaking to operational. Children of Pike Road homes are expected to start attending Pike Road School in the fall of 2015.
Individuals appointed to serve on the PRELC include John Averett, Ed Cleveland, Mitchell Dubina, Charlette Julius and John Stewart. Previously announced members include Pat Harris, Telisa Myers, Rob Steindorff, Jason Wingate and former state superintendent of education, Dr. Ed Richardson. Additionally, Cacyce Davis, Ray Hawthorne, Tommy Ratliff, Morgan Simpson and Linda Ware have been named to the first ever Pike Road School Board.
One of the first steps for the board and education leadership committee is to hire a superintendent, so that they can assemble a team and formulate a game plan.
Construction on Pike Road School is expected to begin this fall with the school expected to open for classes in August 2015. Initially the school will be available to students in kindergarten through eighth grade with a high school to follow. For more information on this story, check out the WSFA Channel 12.
