Cahaba Fry Down at Trussville SpringsThe Cahaba River Fry-Down is back! This Sunday, Sept. 28, approximately 1,000 people are expected to join the Cahaba River Society for its annual fundraiser at Trussville Springs.

At the heart of the event is the Fry-Down. This highly-competitive event pits corporate and community teams against each other to see who can deliver the best fish and wow the crowds, as well as a panel of esteemed judges. Last year, 11 corporate and community teams faced off to win titles that included:

  • Best Overall
  • Best Presentation
  • Most Creative
  • Ken Bowen Team Spirit Award
  • Best Side Dish
  • Skinny Fish Award
  • Crowd Favorite
  • Miss Congeniality

The Cahaba River Society provides the fish for the competition and then it is up to each chef to work their magic and make it a crowd favorite. Additionally, teams are encouraged to come up with creative sides that complement their fish and leave a lasting impression.

In addition to the Fry-Down, Education and Field Directors from the Cahaba River Society will offer educational activities in and around the River. Attendees are invited to splash around while they learn the relationship between water quality, habitat, drinking water and the health of aquatic life, humans and wildlife, so make sure to bring a towel!

Throughout the event, adults will enjoy a selection of local craft beers in the Fry-Down Beer Garden, while children and adults alike will enjoy a variety of activities including Disc Golf putting competitions, corn hole, horseshoes, bocce ball and a rock wall.

The 2014 Cahaba Fry-Down will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is FREE for kids 12 and under, and $20 for everyone 13 and older. In addition to a towel, make sure you bring a blanket and chairs, sneakers and an appetite! The event is also dog-friendly; just make sure they are on a leash.

You will not want to miss out on this family-friendly event! For more information, visit www.frydown.com.
