StreetscapeWhen home buyers think of the finer things in life, comfort and safety are a top priority on their list. SafeWise, a home security and safety site and Niche, a site providing reviews and insights for consumers, both recently ranked Alabama’s safest cities and included suburbs from the Birmingham metro area! Communities in which we build, including Alabaster, Gardendale, Pelham and Vestavia Hills, made this year’s lists!

At Harris Doyle, we know that Alabama residents want to feel safe in their new homes. The studies found the following statistics when determining which cities were safest in Alabama:

  • Overall, 50 percent of this year’s safest cities reported fewer than 15 violent crimes in the FBI’s most recent crime report.
  • 25 percent of those cities reported zero counts of both rape and murder.
  • 17 of the cities on the list had no murders ever reported.
  • Cities ranged from 2,700 to 35,000 residents and averaged fewer than 180 incidents of property crime, with 50 percent seeing fewer than 90 total property crimes during the reporting period.
  • The likelihood of major crimes and property crimes was based on them occurring out of 1,000 people in each city.

In just two years, Alabaster, Gardendale, Pelham and Vestavia Hills have all moved up between three and six spots in Niche’s safest cities rankings. Vestavia Hills was ranked at No. 2 on the list, while Pelham came in at No. 5. Also in the top 20 was Alabaster at No. 13 and Gardendale at No. 19.

The SafeWise report found similar results, with just a minor change in rankings. Vestavia Hills was ranked No. 6, while Pelham came in at No. 12 and Alabaster was No. 15. However, all three cities were ranked higher on this year’s report than last year.

Alabaster is home to 31,300 residents and is considered a southern suburb of Birmingham. We are currently building new homes in Alabaster at Lacey’s Grove, a master-planned community with homes priced from the low $200,000s.

In nearby Pelham, you’ll find Alabama’s largest state park and our Keeneland Valley community. Close to the intersection of highway 31 and Valleydale Road, Keeneland Valley features 41 new homes priced from the mid-$200,000s. Currently, one move-in ready home is available!

In Gardendale, home buyers will find our new homes at Fieldstown Crossing, where we’ve just started a new phase. Here, we offer 18 unique floor plans priced between $245,000 and $309,000.

Vestavia Hills has a population of more than 24,000 residents and lives by the motto “A Life Above.” The suburb does not disappoint with its well-educated population and well-regarded school systems. We currently have two communities in this sought-after area – Steelemont and Altadena Ridge. Steelemeont offers just 27 home sites priced from the $400,000s, with two move-in homes now available. At nearby Altadena Ridge, construction has just begun on the very first homes, meaning buyers can be among the first to choose their home site and plan!

At Harris Doyle Homes, we pride ourselves on building quality homes in prime locations near the best that Birmingham has to offer. To learn more about our homes and communities, visit
